ETFC24 was honoured to have Dr. Debajit Sarma, an esteemed Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, IIT Patna, renowned for his expertise in catalysis and materials chemistry as an Invited Speaker.

With an illustrious academic background, Dr. Sarma earned his Ph.D. from IISc and completed a prestigious postdoctoral stint at Northwestern University, USA, under the guidance of Prof. Mercouri G. Kanatzidis. His journey in academia has been marked by a relentless pursuit of scientific excellence, coupled with a passion for addressing pressing environmental challenges.

Dr. Sarma delved into the urgent need for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and conversion, a critical challenge in combating climate change. His research focuses on developing innovative catalysts and materials for facilitating CO2 conversion under mild reaction conditions. Leveraging coordination polymers (CPs), coordination polymer gels, and catalytically active nanoparticles supported robust metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), Dr. Sarma aims to pave the way for sustainable energy practices and environmental conservation.

Furthermore, Dr. Sarma's innovative endeavors extend to the development of photoactive coordination polymer gel-based catalysts, offering a promising avenue for CO2 conversion into carbon monoxide (CO) without the need for sacrificial agents. Through his pioneering research, Dr. Sarma continues to revolutionize CO2 capture and conversion strategies, contributing significantly to the global efforts towards a sustainable future.
